Interchange Group - Case Study - Shoosmiths
TOP LAW FIRM GOES MOBILE
Shoosmiths is a national law firm providing a range of legal services to hundreds of clients throughout the UK. The firm has over 150 years’ experience of putting its clients at the heart of service innovation and outstanding service delivery.

Streamlining mobile communications

The company had identified a need to develop a mobile communications solution that would deliver tangible benefits, particularly for its partners and fee earners who spend large amounts of time away from the office.

Having looked at a number of options, Shoosmiths chose Interchange Group, which not only supplied GPRS solutions but, more importantly, was able to work with Shoosmiths to develop value-added services and training.

More than 50 wireless email devices are now being rolled out around Shoosmiths’ offices and a training programme to ensure staff get the most out of the solution is also planned.

The firm's 64 partners, located throughout the firm’s eight offices, are committed to delivering Valued Legal Services to many of the leading FTSE companies as well as financial institutions, private and public sector organisations and foreign-owned corporates in the UK. Shoosmiths is widely acknowledged as an innovator and leader in many service areas, including commercial, personal injury, private capital and direct conveyancing.

The remote access solution being installed by Interchange will effectively extend the company’s corporate network, enabling employees to have instant access to key applications, such as email, calendar and time recording – from any location.

Andy Wilkinson, business services manager at Shoosmiths, said: “We wanted a solution which did exactly what it says on the tin – and that is what this does.

“It is a cost effective solution which provides core functionality at a very reasonable price.

“The real added value benefit however, will be from the bespoke applications that Interchange will be delivering as part of the solution, which is why we chose to work with them.”

As well as improving life away from the office for employees, Wilkinson says the move to mobile technologies will also benefit Shoosmiths’ clients by improving accuracy of time recording as it allows partners and fee earners to record time as work is completed, and by speeding up client response time.

Stuart Gooderham, business development manager at Interchange, said: “The legal marketplace is becoming more and more sophisticated in the way it manages its work.

“It has dedicated software packages which, until now, have only usually been available to access from the desktop in the office. This means if a lawyer is away from the office for 2-3 days, it takes some time to input the necessary information on return.  Inevitably, this means the data may not be as accurate as if it had been inputted immediately and it also slows down the billing process.

“By using a remote solution, such as the one we are developing for Shoosmiths, this enables employees to access – and deal with - all their emails remotely and also use input information directly into their system from whatever location they happen to be in.”

Interchange will be working closely with Shoosmiths as the rollout takes place and will be providing evaluation of the results achieved.
